AppFog Weekly Roundup: Cloud Foundry Updates, Node Hotness and Jumpin’ Jumpstarts
Wait – it’s the end of January already?!!? We’re wrapping up another week here at Fort Awesome in Portland, but we’ve been out and about hearing the good word on all things Node.js. Here are our highlights from the past week.
Jumpstarts
We’ve added a brand new Jumpstart to our flagship product, PHP Fog: FuelPHP. For those not familiar with FuelPHP, it’s a simple and flexible PHP 5.3 based web framework. Take it for a test drive this weekend and let us know what you think. Happy hacking!
We’ve upgraded three of our most popular Jumpstarts on PHP Fog: Joomla!, MediaWiki and SugarCRM. If you’re a Joomla! aficionado, you’ll be pleased to take advantage of the 26 new features plus security fixes added with their 2.5.0 release. MediaWiki’s 1.18.1 release includes numerous bug fixes and a security fix. Get on upgrading your sites!
Oh hey – sorry there, Sugar, didn’t mean to leave you out of the party. You can check out the release notes for SugarCRM’s 6.3.1 release to learn more about the new features available for PHP Fog users.
We’re always considering new Jumpstarts to include in PHP Fog, and we’d appreciate your feedback on what pre-configured web framework and application packages you’d like to see us offer. Let us know how we can make your life better on Twitter, Facebook or Google+.
New Features from Cloud Foundry
You may have noticed the recent announcement that improvements to VM Ware’s Cloud Foundry now allow developers to seamlessly migrate their applications between any cloud infrastructure providers running Cloud Foundry. Check out this demo to see just how dead simple the Cloud Foundry folks have made the process.
Recent Events
AppFoggers were out in force at Node Summit, taking in all the awesome that is Node.js. If you weren’t able to join us at the conference, you can check out the talks on siliconangle.tv. And, even cooler in our humble opinion, we’ve published our first ever guest post on the conference courtesy of Adron Hall. Check it out!
Upcoming Events
If you haven’t gotten your fill of Node hotness, join us on February 11-12th for NodePDX. Gotta love a conference that runs their entire site via GitHub. For the latest NodePDX speaker announcements, head on over to Composite Code. The organizers are still accepting speaker proposals, so fork that repo and get your submission in soon!
Welcoming @phyre5 to the AppFog Team
If you’re following @appfog – and we love you if you are – you’ve no doubt seen our RT’s from John-Michael Glenn, our stalwart intern working on all things Jumpstarts and PHP Fog. John-Michael officially joined AppFog as a full-time Software Engineer this week, and we’re stoked to have him as our latest addition to the team. After meeting ActionScript 2.0 as a teenager, he was hooked on programming forever. And to think people discourage high school romance….
From the Things You Probably Already Knew Department
AppFog, our language agnostic PaaS, is still in private beta. You can sign up for an invite at http://appfog.com.
If you’re developing PHP applications, PHP Fog is ready and waiting. Let us know how we can improve your experience, or just about all the cool stuff you’ve built!
